Appeal Letter from the Archbishop of Myanmar
[on behalf of Revd Dr Timothy Chong, Director of Missions]
On 28th March 2025, a powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar, with the epicentre located about 16 km from Mandalay. This earthquake has also impacted its neighbour, Thailand. Praise God, our Anglican churches and members in Thailand are safe.
The worst hit would be the Mandalay region. The 7.7 magnitude earthquake was followed by several aftershocks, one measuring 6.4 magnitude. These series of earthquakes caused damages to buildings, buckled roads, collapsed bridges, a burst dam, and the loss of lives.
For the Diocese of Singapore, we will be focusing on Mandalay, the second largest city in Myanmar. St Hilda’s Church (SHC) has been ministering in Mandalay for more than 30 years. They know the Diocesan leadership, clergy and members of the churches there.
Please approach Ps Joel if you wish to find out how to contribute to the disaster relief.
